My first sony laptop
Date:December 31, 2008
Pros:
Pros: Fast, light, decent battery life, good LCD light, good looking laptop, accurate fingerprint sensor
Cons:
Cons: poor keyboard & touchpad, No illuminated keyboard, Windows XP can't run games and applications as good as windows vista.
I purchased this laptop to replace my 3 years old acer laptop (which almost died) since it can't run games anymore. The first thing that caugh my attention when I recieved the laptop was how light it is. If you carry this laptop around EXCLUDING BATTERIRES, then it will weight the same as the macbook air weights. In addition to that I was surprised at how bright this screen is (compared to my 3 years old acer laptop lol). With Plantium silver color, 2.4 Ghz, 2GB RAM, and ATI VGA with 128mb ram I would recommend this laptop for its price.
For those of you who are interested in battery life results here were the expirement results using the STANDARD (NOT EXTENDED) battery:
Windows XP: With MAXIMUM brightness (FULL POWER) + Wi-fi ON I got almost 4 hours of battery
Windows Vista: MAXIMUM brightness (FULL POWER) + Wi-Fi ON I got almost 2.5 Hours
Of course you can squeeze more battery life if you don't use maximum brightness.
One of the negative featres of this laptop is the keyboard. I almost never had spelling mistakes when writing on my old acer laptop but with this laptop I've having difficulties pressing the keys to avoid spelling mistakes. If you don't mind the keyboard thingy then this laptop is definetly for you.

Worst Purchase Ever
Date:December 27, 2008
Pros:
Pros: Lightweight
Cons:
Cons: Slowest computer ever.
I bought the SR290 to use for my senior year and to take to college. I heard from several people that it would be a good buy, so I listened to their advice. After receiving my notebook, I realized it is the SLOWEST new computer I have ever used. Not only that, but it came with a ton of extra AOL stuff on it that I'll never use and don't want! I tried returning it, but since there is an engraving on it, of course I can't do that.
My mom recently purchased a Macbook and LOVED it, as do I. It's lightweight, fast, and doesn't get viruses! I should have purchased one of those, and I deeply regret it.

nice laptop but costly
Date:December 17, 2008
Pros:
Pros: sleek, light weight and good looking
Cons:
Cons: vista is bad, engraving is hopeless
This is a nice looking laptop. I got it in a very good deal but it is not worth buying it for the full price unless you are really looking for a laptop which is light in weight and sleek..I was most disappointed by the engraving. You can hardly see it. Font is small and you just can’t make out if anything is written unless you look very hard. I had put my engraving with a lot of excitement but was disappointed. Another drawback is the vista. If you are used to xp then i wud suggest to buy the downgrade disc to xp..i am happy with the laptop so far as I got it very cheap as compared to the actual price. Look around for a deal if you want to buy this laptop.

One sweet laptop
Date:November 21, 2008
Pros:
Pros: Clear screen, Nice keys, Great performance
Cons:
Cons: Too much pre-installed software.(but you can remove it)
I bought the sony SR 290, and upgraded to the ATI 3470 graphics card, and 2.25Ghz P8400. This laptop is awesome!!! After I uninstalled alot of the sony software, this laptop runs smooth as silt. The screen is very clear, and the keyboard, is outstanding. It even games fairly well, I can play call of duty 4 at fairly high detail, I didn't expect that from a 4 pound laptop.

SR290 series is a buy
Date:November 17, 2008
Pros:
Pros: Design, Looks, Keyboard, Compact enough for travel, decent battery life
Cons:
Cons: only 2 USB ports, expensive for the upgrade options, $50 to downgrade to XP
The thing I like most about this computer is the build quality. It's made from a very sturdy material and has little to no flex in the keyboard or main body at all. I love the keyboard layout and design, it's very similar to the macbook. The battery life is OK but don't expect 6hrs probably 3hrs is a safer bet. It's pretty light and compact especially coming from my old comp. that had a 15.4" display and weighed over 5lbs. My only real gripe is I wish it had a 3rd USB port. Also the spacing between the USB ports is cramped and can interfier with the DVD drive. So far I am very pleased with this computer and would highly recommend it for college students or for basic use.

Great Laptop, but a little cheap compared to the Z
Date:November 14, 2008
Pros:
Pros: Great value, great performance
Cons:
Cons: Material a little cheap, bad screen compared to the Z
Great laptop for a college student.
Battery life is a bit short if you pick discrete card, around 2 hours. If you go for the integrated, you should get over 4 hours easily.
Great performance under the hood, comparable to the Z.
My main gripe with this is the quality of the materials. Compared to the Z, the part under the laptop has a very rough and cheap texture. Another huge problem is the screen, which is a little washed out.
But it is still a great laptop and a solid performer.
It is a bit heavy compared to the Z.
If you have the money, i would pick the Z.
